Here are my tried-and-true tips for getting your best arches ever.
Brow hair has the tendency to curl and twistjust like the hair on your head.

Use a spoolie to brush your arches and tame wily hairs.
This will also help you really see the natural shape of your arch.
Place the brush along the side of your nose to find the spot where your brow should start.

Finish by lining the brush up with the corner of your nose and the very edge of your eye.
Where the brush intersects with your brows is the point where the hair should stop.
Every once in a while, your brows need a trim.

Use brow scissors to cut long, curly hairs that are throwing off your shape.
Start by brushing brows straight up.
Any hairs that have grown longer than your natural arch can get a snip.

Your brows arent meant to be one monotone block of color.
You want to give them a gradient effect that is lightest in the inner corners.
So, start by applying product at your arch.

Then, move to draw in the ends.
Finish by coming back to the front.
If youre using a powder, dont reapply more product to the brush.

Just use whatever is left on your tool to shade in the front of your arches.
But keep in mind, the most natural-looking brow is a shade lighter than your hair color.
So, don’t get too zealous with the ultrablack product.

After you’ve outlined your arches, blend in the stark lines with your spoolie brush.
You thought tweezing should be first.
Well, its actually better to tweeze unwanted hairs after youve already filled in your arches.

This is an easy way to keep from overplucking.
Tweeze away any hairs that are outside of the brow shape you’ve drawn.
If there is any redness, you might use ice to calm down the irritation.

Also, hygeine PSA: check that to wipe down your tweezers with alcohol every now and then.
When you paint over your brows with product, it can look a little fake.
Putting gel over the brows makes your natural hair stand out.
Then brush brows up from front to ends.
This also ensures your brow makeup doesnt smear in the middle of the day.
My current favorite brow gel is YSL Couture Brow ($35,nordstrom.com).
To really make your brows pop, outline your arches with concealer and a small brush.
Concealer can also cover up any stray hairs if you don’t have tweezers on hand.
As you might see, it requires a lot of time (and tools) to get amazing brows.
If youre totally over it, you could use things you already have in your kit.
Mascara makes a great substitute for brow gel.
