And I’m not the only one who learned it from her momma.

I talked to 12 women who shared their mothers' beauty wisdom.

My mom taught me that beauty starts on the insidequite literally.

Taking care of my heart and my emotions came first.

My mom stayed true to organic beauty: minimal makeup, beautiful red hair, and freckles.

In contrast, she let me do whatever I wanted to on the beauty front.

But my foundation was my wellness.

What a gift my mom was and is.

Sara Happ, founder of Sara Happ Inc.

I grew up in rural Jamaica.

My mom was a stay-at-home mom.

Her beauty lessons to me came from her doing them in her own routine.

We had a small garden with all kinds of veggies and raised chickens, goats, and cows.

I think thats where I got my love for nail polish.

On Sundays, my mom did my natural hair to get me ready for school on Monday.

The most important beauty lesson my mom taught me wasconfidence.

Im 5 feet 11 inches tall.

Ive been that height since 11 or 12 years old.

My mom ensured that I held my head up and stood up straight.

She never wanted me to feel less than or apologize for how I showed up in the world.

That’s because she always took care of it.

I wish I had taken that more to heart from a younger age.

I now really know how important both are in a daily routine for long-termskin-care.
