Her body positivity journey started with her desire to lose weight.

“I enjoy eating, and I’m fine being a bigger girl.

I might as well accept who I am and roll with it.”

“I don’t have legs like the girls you see in movies.

I’ve never been built like that,” she says.

“I’ve always hated mycellulitethat’s been a big thing for me to embrace this year.”

And that’s exactly why she did it.

Johnson wanted to challenge herselfand other women like herto accept her cellulite this summer.

“We’ve learned it’s not OK to have cellulitethat it’s not an attractive feature.

We’ve been told that our whole lives,' she says.

“We have one teeny tiny life, and it goes by really quickly.

We have to enjoy these summers.

We’re all beautiful, and we should be allowed to do that.”

The trend was born.

“I used to worry about everybody else too muchI didn’t worry about me.

I was like, ‘OMG, I don’t want other people to see my legs.’

“The picture I posted is from Sea World, of all places,” Pettijohn tells SELF.

“My body’s been through a lot.

That just devastated me.

I’ve been taking some time to let my body heal.

But that picture is from my day off, and I decided to wear shorts to Sea World.

I just noticed, you know, my legs look pretty damn good.

There are some bumps, some dimples, and some cellulite, but they’re strong.

And they’ve carried my and my son.”

“I don’t usually wear shorts in public.

“This year, I’m just getting to the point where I don’t care anymore.

I’d rather be comfortable.

You only have one life, so you might as well feel good about yourself today.”

I’d wear long jeans, sweaters, hoodies, and things like that.

“But over the last few years, it’s stopped being taboo for me.

I’ve started wearing bikinis, and now no one can get me out of shorts.

No one should have to cover themselves or feel uncomfortable.”
