When Pamela Anderson went to Paris Fashion Weekwithout any makeuplast October, the internet freaked out.

You dont see many barefaced women celebs in general, and especially not ones over 50.

This minimalist attitude is creating a buzz outside of Hollywood too.

Here, 17 former makeup enthusiasts tell SELF what inspired them to ditch their beloved cosmetics.

I used to always wear makeup whenever I went outside.

But while I wasquarantining during COVIDI didnt need to, since I wasnt seeing anyone or going anywhere.

I stopped wearing makeup after admiring my daughter and her natural beauty.

My skin (and my eyes in particular) are justfar too sensitive.

Plus what am I trying to hide?

This is my true skin, wrinkles and all.

Im five years younger than Pamela Anderson, and I think she looks amazing.

I applaud her for taking a stand and appearing as herself.

I realized I like the feeling of clean, clear skin as opposed to wearing makeup.

At this stage in my life, the main idea is to look healthy.

And of course there are times when I feel pressured to wear eye makeup with lipstick.

The looks were pretty dramaticto the point where I could barely recognize myself.

For me, makeup is no different than getting charged more for pink razors catered to women.

That and maybe Im too lazy for the upkeep that would be required.

To practice self-acceptance, I decided to stop covering my acne.

I initially got into makeup because I wasinsecure about my cystic acne.

Someone once told me to dress for the job I wanted.

To be honest, I never wore makeup in high school or college.

The most Id wear was mascara and lip gloss, but that was it.

I did want to learn eventually, though, so I tried layering on more.

Anytime I wanted to film, Id rush to do my makeup first before presenting myself to the world.

Performing feminity through heavy makeup might’ve made me feel more presentable, but it stunted my self-expression.

I actually love watching people do their makeup.

Its such a cool skill!

Now when I go to work, its pretty much just sunscreen.
