The 2016Olympic Gamesin Rio came to an end tonight with a stunning closing ceremony.
The Rio games opened with a focus on Brazil’s history, and it ended the same way.
The ceremony included several dazzling cultural segments, including performers dressed as Macawsbirds native to North and South America.

All the athletes came together to process and recognize their accomplishments at this year’s games.
Smiles were everywhere, and selfie-taking was abundant, too.

Great Britain’s athletes showed up in custom-made light-up shoes to commemorate their country’s best Olympic Games to-date.
It’s no secret Team USA killed it at the Olympicsespecially as far as the women were concerned.
The team walked away with a whopping 121 medals46 of them goldand the women made a seriously impressive showing.

Not to mention,Simone Bileswon a historic four gold medals (and a bronze!
And of course, Bilesmade historyagainduring the procession.
She was asked to lead Team USA as the flag-bearer, which is considered an honor.
The two-minute montage compiled clips of athletes doing badass stuffand wove in some animation and video game allusions.

Humor aside, the Rio-to-Tokyo handover might have been the most touching moment of the closing ceremony.
And can we just say: The next four years can’t go by quickly enough.
