It’s important to recognize that sexual harassment comes in many forms.

Equal Employment Opportunity Commission(EEOC) reports that it received6,822 chargesof sexual harassment in 2015.

That makes up about 25 percent of all the harassment claims it received that year (27,893in total).
According to Raghu, there are many reasons people subjected to sexual harassment would choose not to come forward.
She says that, most commonly, harassed employees fear that people won’t believe them or take action.
Other concerns include colleagues viewing them in a negative way or missing out on future opportunities.
It can be challenging for someone to leave their job after being sexually harassedfor many different reasons.
Donald Trump said that if Ivanka had been subjected to sexual harassment, she should just leave her job.
But experts agree that leaving a job in this situation is nowhere near that simple.
But, Brantner says, no one should be forced to leave their job because of sexual harassment.
“The bottom line is that sexual harassment isagainst the law,” she says.
“You shouldn’t have to leave your jobthe person doing the harassing should leave theirs.”
Some employers may even have multiple reporting mechanisms, including the option to report anonymously.
“Because frequently victims aren’t believed, and that can lead to people not coming forward.”

Your employer might retaliate, but that’s illegal too.
And unfortunately, Brantner says, this does ring true in other sexual harassment cases as well.
“But retaliation is against the same law that makes harassment illegal,” she says.
Stopping sexual harassment should be everyone’s obligationnot just the person being harassed.
Instead, she says, the company should be asking itself what it could have done differently.
“But by the time it’s a legal issuea liability issueit’s too late,” Brantner emphasize.
“Someone has already had to experience a lot of really bad behavior.
