Because of my job, Im trained to be in touch with my feelings.

I struggle to practiceself-carewithout feeling selfish, just like you might.

Here are the coping methods that have worked for me so far.

I attempt to stick to my new routine.

Beyond that, I attempt to eat regularmealsand go to bed at regular times.

Sleeping can be easier said than done even when werenotdealing with a massive global health crisis.

I schedule virtual activities with friends.

It makes working from home feel a little less lonely.

Its more than okay to create moments of joy even though were collectively going through a hard time.

I limit my social media use.

I read inspirational and absorbing books.

Right now Im reading and lovingUntamedby Glennon Doyle ($16,Amazon).

As a bonus, they sometimes help me fall asleep.

Apps like Calm also havesleep storiesfor this exact purpose!

I listen to podcasts to cut back on my screen time.

Im admittedly not the best at practicing mindfulness.

Instead, I sometimes put on podcasts when I want to relax.

Podcasts allow me to do just that.

I venture to move around even when Im cooped up inside.

Ive found that its really important for me tostay physically activeright now.

I write my way out of my feelings.

I often feel like Im writing my way out of feelings.

I actually first learned how helpful journaling could be in medical school.

It helps me parse through and confront my feelings instead of bottling them up.

I talk through my feelings in therapy.

I have an awesometherapist, and weve kept our regular weekly schedule.

We dovirtual sessionsnow, which have been a transition even when Im the patient instead of the provider.

But its worth it because seeing her really is helping me process all of…this.

Of course, Im biased.

If you think you might want or need one, venture to find one.

Heres SELFs guide tofinding an affordable therapist, and teletherapy services likeBetterHelpandTalkspaceare available too.

(Talkspace even has a COVID-19 stress-and-anxiety-management program.)

No one has the answers, and there is no right way to feel.

This is a time of uncertainty for everyone, and we are all learning and growing together.

Coping will be a lot easier that way.
