The resemblance is uncanny.

As a pure, unadulterated lover of all things ’90s, I sought to answer this question.

And let me tell youit wasn’t easy to pull off!

To make matters worse, my lip liner turned out tragically uneven.

However when I arrived at work, I learned that wearing a scrunchie is like wearing a Scarlet Letter.

Cant remember which one, but some ’90s character.

Seriously, white eye shadow?

the woman helping me at Sephora questioned.

Are you sure you dont want to wear a beige?

The white eyeliner was more laborious and stressful than the brown lipstick!

And while the gloss tool was painless, it was particularly pungent.

I gagged with every accidental whiff. How the hell can they sell this stuff to kids?!

Your eyes are huge, one coworker said unabashedly.

You look like an anime character.

Sadly, that wouldnt be the first time Id be compared to a Japanese cartoon that day.

My boyfriend had the most negative sentiment of all.

If you wear that again, he chucked over FaceTime.

We might have to break up.Ouch.

I felt…pretty.

I got so much more volume than when I use traditional bobby pins.

The reception at work was pretty positive: I LOVE the butterfly clips.

; Love the crimped hair!

Youre inspiring me to break out my crimper, too.

My boyfriend loved it, too, but I dont think he was entirely comfortable with it.

I feel weird being attracted to you right now, he remarked shyly.

But if I was in the fifth grade, Id be all over you.

The triple glitter threat, if you will.

For this beauty test, I wanted to see if Id turn heads when surrounded by complete strangers.

I did have a female bartender make one remark.

Is that glitter on your eyelids?

It looks very pretty.

Colored hairspray paired with temporary tattoos was my favorite for pop concerts and MySpace selfies.

And it was (surprisingly) the least dramatic look of all.

I also liked the look of the hairspray.

The tone was pastel-like and subtly cute, perfect for a temporary rainbow ombre.

The purple, sticky residue left on my hands every time I touched my hair?

But Id rock the butterfly clips and many of my other childhood beauty looks againexcept for the scrunchie.

The scrunchie has gotta go.
