Jessica Alba: How much of your day does it take to launch the business?
JA: So you never shut off?
LBL: No, not really.
And its fun, though, because my life and FEED blend into each other so nicely.
Even being here in LA on break, Im always looking at different things and stores and ideas.
JA: So youre here getting inspiration?
LBL: Yeah, but trying to find that balance, too.
JA: What does your morningyour most productive morninglook like?
LBL: Definitely starts with a workout, though it doesnt always happen.
JA: Whats your favorite workout?
LBL: I love SoulCycle.
JA: Me too, thats a good one.
Like, when you see someone next to you going hard, do you feel like you cant slack?
LBL: I would say yeah, Im probably pretty competitive.
JA: Are you a front rider or are you in the back?
LBL: Im a middle rider, for the most part.
JA: I get claustrophobic in the middle!
LBL: I dont like being front and center.
I dont go often enough to feel comfortable being front and center!
JA: So what does SoulCycle, or working out, do for you mentally or spiritually?
Why do you feel most productive when you start your day that way?
LBL: I think its the chemical effects of working out.
LBL: All day, sort of back to back to back.
Its kind of a blur once I hit my office.
LBL: Mainly on my computer, because Im quicker that way.
And I can cut and paste and look at sites and do what I need to do more effectively.
But there are days where Im running around town or traveling and its mostly on my iPhone.
JA: Whats your worst habit at work?
LBL: Probably drinking too many coffees and being a little jittery by the end of the day.
JA: Do you eat anything in the morning?
LBL: I venture to, but sometimes no.
Ive been really good this year, so Im turning over a new leaf in 2015!
JA: Do you follow a certain diet?
Or are you like, no diets?
LBL: I love food, so Im kind of a no diet person.
Ive been a lifelong vegetarian, though.
Thats not for weight reasons or anything like that.
Its because I didnt want to eat animals.
No specific rules, I guess.
JA: You have probably the most perfect skin every time I see you.
LBL: No…
JA: Its pretty perfect.
Whats your secret to perfect skin?
I really notice if I dont get enough sleep!
I really start to see it in my skin.
JA: Alright, listen ladies.
Sleep is the secret to good skin!
What woman or women inspire you the most?
LBL: Im not going to say this just because shes here, but my mom.
The women Im closest to and interacting with every day.
So my mom, my sister and the women of team FEED.
Theyre really dedicated to our cause and growing what were doing.
I think youre one of the first to ever do that.
LBL: Yeah, Im really proud.
Now its like, as with Honest Company, so many companies are joining that movement.
JA: You paved the way!
You were one of definitely the trendsetters and you are the voice of the millennials.
You were quite young when you started the company.
So why not attach a measurable, tangible donation?
The model continues from Day 1.
And yet, its fun because weve gone into different product categories and keep growing the business.
So the stronger our business can be, the bigger our give bag can be.
So similar to Honest Company and what you guys are doing.
JA: Thank you.
So fun to collaborate, too!
What are your favorite apps, or what cant you live without?
LBL: Like email?
Im not very tech savvy.
JA: Beyond your calendar.
LBL: I know.
I would say, beyond like the basics, Uber, Pinterest, Instagram.
I love Instagram, as I see you do too.
JA: Yes, yes, yes.
Whos your favorite person you follow on Instagram?
JA: For all the vegetarians out there, what are you favorite vegetarian restaurants in New York?
We just went to a neat one here the other day called Squirrel.
In New York, Candle Cafe is really yummy or Blossoms is really yummy.
I would say those are my two New York go-tos.
LBL: Texas doesnt have much vegetarian.
But great Mexican food.
JA: What did you want to be when you grew up?
LBL: Oh, so many things.
For a while I wanted to a professional ice skater, a judge, or an artist.
JA: Why a judge?
Because youre into justice for all?
LBL: I dont know.
That dream died after I realized you had to go to law school.
JA:But that altruism didnt leave you?
I dont know where the ice skating came in.
JA:I love ice skating.
My daughters want to be gymnasts, scientists, doctors, and mermaids.
Im like, Just study really hard!
So you wanted to be a lot of things.
What do you feel is your greatest accomplishment to date?
LBL: Founding FEED.
Just kind of seeing it through over eight years.
Having that persistence, if you will.
So Id say its not one singular moment, its the hanging in there process.
But as a result, weve been able to give over 87 million meals around the world.
JA:Thats incredible.
LBL: So Im obviously proud of that number.
But at the same time recognizing and feeling that theres so much more to be done.
