After that bit of bad news, the dental hygienist began the whitening process.
She started by pumicing my teeth to buff away any surface stains.
This felt just like any teeth cleaning Id ever had, except way less water and drool.
Next was the sealant, which protects gum tissue from the whitening gel.
The thing looked like it was meant for pro football players.
In the end, she had to fetch a smaller guard that did the trick.
This was probably the easiest part.
Just minutes before the UV light, I took a photo for Snapchat.
The UV light felt warm on my face, but there was no pain or discomfort at all.
Once the machine beeped, it was time for more gel.
I started moaning for help and instantly the hygienist turned the lights on and removed the UV light.
I tried to communicate to her what I was feeling, but I could hardly utter a single word.
Do you think we can loop back and try?
I wasnt about to just get up and leave after making it through the first session.
So, we tried it again and about 10 seconds in the pain came again.
This time she called Dr. Rozenberg in.
Pain threshold is different for everyone, so some people experience more discomfort then others, she said.
Some people can get zingers even from regular take-home bleaching.
It just depends on how sensitive your teeth are to the whitening gel.
I decided to have another go.
But what happened to the painless, simple procedure I thought I was experiencing?
We gave the UV light one more try, but the pain resurfaced.
I felt like a prissy princess, but honestly the pain was maddening.
If youve experienced tooth pain before, you know its way worse than a hangover from hell.
The results were pretty incredible already.
Even though I only lasted one round, it’s possible for you to easily see the difference.
The zingers persisted for the rest of the dayinstant and out-of-nowhere nerve pain that was sharp as a dagger.
The weirdest part was that it came and went.
Id walk five blocks totally pain-free and all of a sudden be overcome with immense pain.
Your teeth are SO white!
