Let me start by saying, I am not a makeup artist.

But I, myself, am no artist.

My day-to-day look consists of foundation, blush, brows, and mascara.

The heaviest I usually go is a bold lip.

I’ll maybe swipe on a neutral shadow before mascara.

But unless I’m going out, you probably won’t catch me in even eyeliner.

With that being said, seven days of eye looks seemed like a lofty challenge.

I’d finally have to break kick off the palettes gathering dust in my makeup collection.

But I was excited to apply all the different looks I’ve seen and written about over the years.

I got brave as the days progressed, upping the difficulty and intensity with each look.

Get inspiration from the seven different looks below, from a simple two-shadow look to a bold winged liner.

Then, I took the metallic Nudestix in Burnish and drew along the crease to the inner corner.

Using this darker shade within the crease helps shape the eyes and add some depth.

I finished it off with a mascara that darkened and separated my lashes.

My Experience:This one was so simple and basic that no one even noticed.

This created an even base for the rest of the colors to build on.

Next I filled in my lids with the medium-dark shade Factory.

I then smoothed out the lower lash’s shadow with a skinny angle brush.

This was a trick I learned backstage at NYFW.

You want to use the shadow to enhance your eye shape, not to bury it.

My Experience:I ended up really liking this look for day-to-day.

All the neutrals were subtle but worked well together.

On the way home from work, my boyfriend asked who did my makeup.

Once again, proving how little I do eye makeup.

Even though he’s no beauty expert, I was proud he thought it was a professional job.

They were my salvation for all the looks involving eyeliner.

Now back to the actual makeup look!

I chose to use the Givenchy liner for two reasons.

One: I liked the shiny finish.

Two: I liked the close control the ultra-thin, precise brush gave me.

After dragging across the top lash line, I carefully drew up towards the outer tip of my brow.

From the tip of the flick, I then drew back over the wing to slightly thicken it.

And after my attempt there’s no way I’ll be wearing it again!

The small wings were too hard to perfect.

It’s like the little flicks just appear every morning.

I started drawing the eyeliner on the bottom lash line directly into the waterline.

In short stroking motions, I moved from the outside inward.

My Experience:My current obsession with HBO’sVinyland all things edgy really got me amped for this look.

I typically go with something similar to this for a night out but not quite as thick or bold.

Then, I went in and applied the metallic purple Urban Decay Tonic to my lid.

Next, I used the darkest purple from the Pixi palette and applied in my crease.

Then things got real.

And of course I topped it off with Butter London’s electric blue mascara in Inky Sky.

My Experience:I really loved how this look turned outand so did everyone else.

Thank goodness it leaned towards the latter.

I was a little hesitant wearing all these colors to the office, but all I got were compliments.

And once I hit the dance floor that Friday night, it felt exactly right.

Then I blended Smashbox’s Platinum into the lid and slightly above.

A custom-blended brown, but still just a brown.

In hopes of saving the look, I used Laura Mercier’s kajal liner.

My Experience:This was not as smoldering as I imagined it turning out.

I didn’t really have any rhyme or reason except for trying to achieve sexy-eyes.

Which did not pan out.

With the tippy top of the liner, I outlined the wing shape.

I started on the inner corner of my eyes and used one swift motion along the lash line.

Then I moved it towards the outer end of my brow.

I was eventually able to finish it after closing the pen here and there.

I also applied black liner in the lower waterline using the Laura Mercier kajal.

Don’t get me wrong, I love this look on other people.

But my small, dark eyes just don’t work for this.

It was a really fun way to explore all of the different options I’ve only admired from afar.

I probably won’t be flicking out big or small wings any time soon.
