On Day 1, I spent 223 minutes (just shy of 3.75 hours) using my phone.

And 47or 29 percentof those minutes were spent on Instagram.

That isnt totally surprising.

The weirdest finding was that I somehow spent 34 minutes looking at my home and lock screens.

This struck me as odd, so I did a little investigating.

Do you see all those little gray dots in my usage video?

And Moment doesn’t document shorter pickups, like when you quickly touch your phone to check the time.

Thats, uh, a lot.

Second, it iscreepyto me that I pick up my phone an average of 99 times per day. The average Moment user only picks up their phone 52 times per day—what thehellam I doing? Even on my best day, I picked it up 59 times. As I noted before, some of these recorded “pickups” are just my phone lighting up for five seconds or more. So I’m physically picking my phone up a little less than the results indicate. But even a quick glance at my daily usage makes it clear that I’m apt to pick up my phone, use it for a few minutes, and put it away—only to pull it out and restart the cycle a couple minutes later. And that’s not ideal.According to a different Moment-provided graph, I pick up my phone every nine minutes. That sounds downright obsessive, even considering the five seconds or more thing, and it makes me want to hide my phone from view for extended periods of time.

Thursday looked a lot like Wednesday, with two fewer minutes of use and 22 more pickups.

That said, my pickups dropped to 115, which was a bit lower than Days 1 and 2.

Day 4 in-depth:

Like Day 4, Day 5 was generally low in cell phone use.

I worked my ass off.

I was in the zone, and I just kept my phone out of sight, out of mind.

Thats a big deal for me!

It was another very productive day for me, work-wise, though not nearly as productive as Monday was.

But seeing these findings considered togetherand looking at the patterns Moment gleaned from themdid.

For starters, I found out Instagram was only my fourth most-used app, and that shocked me.

But I didnt realize I spent so much time on Safarior looking at my home and lock screens.

According to a different Moment-provided graph, I pick up my phone every nine minutes.

Whats heartening: I spend 17 percent of my waking life staring at a mobile screen.

Still, 17 percent is a lot.

This is another semi-heartening finding, as the average Moment user spends 237 minutes on their phone per day.
