I take my hair pretty seriously.

Because Im also an obsessed hot Vinyasa student and runner, I sweatand consequently shampoo and showerall the time.

But I never back away from a dare or challenge (see: mySoylent Diaries).

Lately, though, there’s been a bright light in the beauty aisle.

There are more shampoo alternatives to help lazy girls stretch the days between cleansing.

To test the trend, I embarked on a week-without-washing experiment.

The goal: to stop washing my hair and keep it looking clean and fresh with everything but shampoo.

Here’s how it went.

Made with violet pigments to counteract brassiness on blonde hair, this stuff is the shampoo of gods.

And it makes my hair feel like spun silk.

Even if it was all downhill from there, at least I was starting at the top.

Which meant I had to dosomethingwith my sweat-soaked hair.

But after I selfied that ish, WOW.

I’d argue this was one of the best hair days of this lot.

Although it’s not anything like DryBar’s foam, it does have an incredibly unique texture.

It almost feels like a cloud puff with each pump.

I couldnt help but be like, “Damn Rachel.

You did have a really great hair day.”

At this point, I felt like I was on top of the no-shampoo world.

Although I felt icky in my head,everyoneI ran into complimented my hair.

But perhaps most important in my tool kit was my Mason Pearson brush.

Translation: Less buildup up at the roots, more shine throughout.

But my hair looked and felt a bit limp.

Before I continue, I should show you how I looked when I wasn’t selfie-ing for this story.

I mostly wore my hair in a messy topknot.

That whole dry, breakage thing continued to get worse as the days progressed.

(So did my commitment to daily makeup applications for these selfies.)

It left my hair kinda stiff, but I don’t think you could tell by looking at me.

I had mixed feelings.

My hair looked OK, but I was ready for a good shampoo.

The salon kind with the head massage.

A few spritzes disguised my greasy roots, making my hair passable in public for another day.

), I was elated.

Happier, hydrated hair.

The biggest surprise to me was how dry my hair got from not shampooingI assumed the complete opposite.

A woman can not live on dry shampoo and scalp treatments alone.

I mean, you guys, I got compliments on days when I did practically nothing to may hair.

That is nothing to scoff at.

The verdict: I love shampoo, and Im not giving it up anytime soon.
