This got me thinking: Does it really make a difference?
Do better workout clothes enhance your performance?
Do my three-year-old running shoes make me slower in a race?
Me, in my normal “workout gear."
Do the scrub pants Ive worn in a cycling class inhibit my performance on the bike?
And what about on a psychological level?
There’sevidencethat what we wear can affect our psychological processes.
Me, in my normal “workout gear."
So would a few fancy activewear pieces give me a better mindset for my workouts?
I decided to give it a test to find out.
I was reluctant to shed a pair of cheerleading shorts fromgaspjunior high school and a college T-shirt.
I would totally take Target’s JoyLab clothing from studio to street.
And the leggings were like a soft, flattering glove.
Along that same price-point isTargets new line, JoyLab.
So my being willing to take an outfit from gym to street is really saying something.
Head to toe Lululemon at Red Rocks and loving it
One cant talk about workout gear and not mention Lululemon, the Cadillac of athleisure wear.
But Im now Team Lulu.
I tiptoed into the Lulu waters during a trip to Denver.
New looks for yoga (left) and barre (right)
What I loved most was that they boasta special pocket designed for my cellphone.
On this same trip, I wore the same ensemble for a run.
The biggest upgrade over my usual look?
Out with the old and in with the new
I also tried totally different Lululemon gear while indoor-cycling.
Im so impressed that I plan to wear them to my next hot yoga class.
(WHO AM I?)
No wonder I always feel so self-conscious in those classeseven if I love the workout.
I might wear this for my anniversary next month.
And you know what?
I felt good about myself while bending, lifting, tucking, and squeezing.
The former is a brand Ive worn in the past and loved.
This sneaker offers plush support with uniquely designed out-sole grooves.
Its lightweight but sturdy, and works well for running.
Plus, its stylish, which is something Ive never appreciated in a sneaker.
Indeed, the sneaker felt springy, as if I were running on a cloud.
I could go all day on these and have since had zero pain.
I would say that new, good sneakers have certainly improved my runs.
And I can also appreciate the bells and whistles of many pieces.
It sounds simple, but its a game-changer.
A run backpack is something I would have never purchased, but is awesome.
Better gear does tend to stay put, chafe less, and allows for an over-all better workout.
