Everything about my eyelashes is averagethey have an average length and especially an average curl.
But on the rare occasion I do pick up my curler, I love the result.
I look more awake and my lashes seem longer.

I just dont love it enough to commit to it every day.
A semi-permanent way to get curled lashes without spending five minutes every morning fooling with the curler?
As with all chemical treatments, the most important thing is safety.
The way to get the best treatment is to see a professional that specializes in lash perming.
This will ensure that you’re getting a trained expert and not an amateur.
Allergens are always something to keep in mind as well.
Its very similar to the perm youd get for your hair, spa owner Shizuka Bernstein explained.
So, come completely bare.
When I arrived, my technician laid me down flat on my back for a more precise utility.
The technician started by brushing glue onto my lids.
The glue acts as a barrier to protect the skin.
(Think of this like the roller you’d use to curl your hair.)
My technician picked the size that would give me the most natural bend.
Then the first solution is applied to the lashes.
This product breaks down the shape of the hair, which is held together by disulfide bonds.
Once these bonds are broken, you’re able to reshape the lashes around the rod.
I sat with the first solution on for 15 minutes.
My technician covered my eyes with plasticwhich boosts the processand an eye mask.
After the 15 minutes, the second solution was brushed ona.k.a the activator.
The lashes are brushed and shaped around the rod to form the ideal curve.
Then, once again, I waited for 15 minutes with plastic and an eye mask on my face.
Surprisingly, the process didnt hurt at all.
So, I tried to let my mind drift somewhere else to distract from the awkward feeling.
At the very end, the specialist applied a conditioning product.
The entire process took about an hour, which felt like a really long time.
Bernstein also cautioned against using a lash curler (and you hopefully shouldnt have to anyway).
The curl from the lash perm should hold for about a month.
And this treatment should not be done more than once every four weeks.
Each perm costs about $70 (and my treatment for this story was complimentary).
The curve was really natural looking, and there was not a single lash left behind.
However, I felt it made my lashes look shorter.
Even a friend at brunch noticed that my lashes looked smaller.
I would recommend this treatment for someone with much more length or stick-straight lashes.
I advise consumers to manage their expectations, explains Merszei.
In the end, I really didn’t see much of a difference from the lash perm.
My lashes were so curly that it gave the opposite of the lengthening effect I was going for.
