As a beauty editor, it’s my job totry new beauty productsand look totally crazy in the process.

Obviously, I got over my fear of public embarrassment years ago.
I first spotted bubble face masks on Instagram (where all obscure and weird beauty products get famous).
Women all over the world are postingselfie shots completely covered in foam.
Valerie Fischel
Which looks pretty cool, but are these fizzy skin products just for show or do they actually work?
Just like sheet and rubber masks, bubble face masks are also imported from the Asian beauty market.
But this clay hybrid isn’t the only fizzing mask on the market.

I also found two other versions to test out.
See all the effervescent results ahead.
The details:This is the bubble face mask Instagram is most excited about.

The jar is covered in Korean characters.
You’re meant to apply the mask to dry, uncleansed skin.
My experience:At first glance, the gray product looks like any other clay or mud mask.

It comes with a tool to scoop the gray jelly onto your face.
Once you get the product on, it begins to bubble within a minute or so.
you’re able to’t really feel the fizzling, but there is a cooling sensation on contact.

As a cleanser, this product cleared up all the oil and dirt from my NYC commute.
The mask definitely left my skin feeling tighter and scented with a clean yet floral smell.
The details:This mask is meant to brighten the skin with the help of oxygen.

Oxygen facials are popular with celebrities likeMadonna.
It quickly turns into bright-white foam on the skin.
Then, it starts to dissipate.

It kind of reminds me of Pop Rocks but on your face instead of in your mouth.
By the time the allotted 10 minutes rolled around, there wasn’t much mask to rinse away.
When I wiped away this product, my skin still felt tinglybut soft.
As for brightening, I can’t really say I saw any instant effect.

The foaming bubbles clean out the pores without leaving that tight feeling.
There is a cooling sensation, but not too much.
After about five minutes, the mask begins to disappear.
At that time, I wiped away the excess.
I will say my skin looked smoother and brighter after using this mask.
So, it would be perfect for a pre-date night treatment.
But overall, the bubbling action wasn’t as impressive as the other two I tested.
