After all, tis the season of New Years resolutions.

In fact, I hope that you wont make any really big, majorly life-altering fitness-related resolutions.

Like, for the rest of your life.

Indulgence is one of the prominent themes of the season.

Actually, let me be more precise: indulgence slathered with guilt is the prominent theme.

The guilt is never meant to subside.

So now you may be asking: But what if I really do want to get in shape?

Lets just switch up our approach.

So, wheres the problem?

These are behaviors that we need to continually engage in pretty much for the rest of our lives.

Thats a fair question and one that I think a lot of people have.

But you’re free to get out of the cycle of making the same resolution every year though!

How to set and achieve those #goals

You dont need to wait until January 1.

This is not rocket science, I realize, but I also dont think it can be repeated enough.

Like right this second if you want.

Do something small today that you know it’s possible for you to repeat tomorrow.

When you are intrinsically motivated to do something, youre more likely to keep doing it.

It sounds obvious but it also seems to be borne out byresearch.

A great example of a goal that needs to be SMARTified is to get in shape.

What does that mean?

And how is it going to be determined?

Maybe a better goal in this case is to move my body at least x minutes a day.

If youre brand new, maybe thats five minutes.

If you are seasoned, maybe its 45 minutes.

Have a plan for unintended obstacles, injuries, unwanted influences, and self-regulatory issues.

For me, this one is huge.

Thats exhausting even to read.

Get out of the spiral.

Mute or unfollow social media accounts that continue to push these agendas.

Enjoy the holidays without guilt.

Create new habits that help you release your shame, not add to it.

Use the holidays to momentarily switch up your routine.

Do things that feed your soul.

Take care of your mental health just as much as your physical health.

Guilt and shame will rob you of good health.

Healthy habits can be hard to form, and behavior can be hard to change.

Its not just you, its humans.

Dont put off a habit you’ve got the option to begin to create right now.

Start with one minute, one mile, one rep, one something.

Have your habits in process before the ball drops so that you are less likely to drop the ball.
