I didnt even think of that!
As a longtime fan, I shouldve anticipated that Jah9 would think of that.
Now Jah9 is leaning into her vision of self-care more than ever before.
Wade Rhoden
To me, self-care starts with honesty and love to myself on all levels, she tells me.
But we both agree that that deeply ingrained cultural belief has got to go.
Chatting with Jah9, its easy to see why she has made a career in music.

She speaks in rhythm.
In paragraphs, even.
She justgoes,a true poet, enunciating her words in all the right places.

And then, just as decisively as she started, she stops.
I wanted to dig deeper into myself, to do more of the work.
Andthatis the power of Jah9.

Not blowing up on people when they disappoint me is yoga.
Practicing nonviolence in places where I could scream is yoga.
Of course, Jah9 hits the actual mat regularly too.
Kemetic yoga isnt just healing for the body, its healing for the African mind, she explains.
Throughout our interview, Jah9 talks a lot about healing theblack community.
But shes not about to dole out any incredibly specific advice.
Instead, she wants to encourage and empower people to do the work themselves.
I want to say, I dont know how you must do it.
You are the only one who knows.
When you choose yourself first, when you practice self-love as your primary, that is revolutionary.
Along those lines, Jah9 also believes that loveitselfis revolutionary.
I think those are revolutionary, brave, courageous actions too, she explains.
Love is the greatest revolution of all right now.
A lot of times, we are taught that softness is a weakness.
But really, if self-love is a revolution, then softness is the way to conquer the hard.
The world is depending on us to do that.
Its going to be okay.
Wrapping up our interview, I feel a general ease that I havent felt in months.
But still, thanks in large part to Jah9s contagious self-assurance, I feel okay.
And I know that I will continue to be okay.
Live in the mystery a little bit!
she reminds me as were about to hang up.
So be humble, study yourself, and let life teach you the way.
