Florence Flo Filion Meiler is on the brink of a storage issue.
Meiler will need that extra space.
Her most recent hardware came from the2019 World Masters Athletics Championships Indoorhosted in March in Torun, Poland.

On top of that, her relay team broke the age-division world record in that event.
I was a pretty busy student, Meiler admits.
I looked at her strangely and said, ‘Barb, Ive never done track, remembers Meiler.

We would challenge each other and we would help each other out, remembers Meiler.
When we went for competition, a lot of times she would win or sometimes I would.
We would always congratulate each other.

So I do the best I can by myself.
My hairdresser says I dont look more than 70.
That youthfulness likely comes in part from the strict training regimen that Meiler designs herself.

In total, she works out at least two hours a day, five days a week.
I think I have shown an example to them with how hard I work, she says.
Right now, she’s focused on finessing her skills in the hammer throw and javelin.

I just want to improve, she says.
Shell also incorporate running intervalsduring a recent practice session, for example, she did three 50-meter runs.
Other days, she’ll practice running the 100- or 200-meter distances.
After 25 years, you more or less know what you should be doing, she says.
She also loves traveling around the country for competitions and socializing with the athletes shes met over the years.
Yet even a world record holder struggles to say motivated from time to time.
But she fights that urge with nonnegotiable self-talk.
I just tell myself, ‘I need to be out on the track and not in bed.’
She also ballroom dances with Eugene; they’ve been married for 58 years.
I cant wait, she says.
With that new age bracket comes new opportunities to break records.
Does she consider herself a pretty competitive person?
I think so, she says.
She pauses and then describes the dynamics of her eight-person social tennis group.
So yes, Meiler is pretty competitive.
She’s also pretty confident.
