SELF: How did you feel leading up to the race?
Tina Maze: This is the only run that I do where Im afraid.
The others [other race courses], you know how they go and theres a lot of space.

But here, its very steep.
SELF: And were you worried about the weather?
It was very windy, and it changes the course.
Sara Gaynes Levy
SELF: Is there any way to train for that?
You just have to take it.
Its good that Ive trained in a lot of different conditions.
SELF: Where did you train this season?
TM: Were always looking for the snow.
In summer I go to Chile or Argentina.
Wherever the snow is and the conditions are good, thats where I am.
Its hard, because I like the summer a lot.
I would prefer to stay in summer!
SELF: What do you do to prepare before a big race like this one?
They [the runs] are short for us, but its a lot of work.
SELF: Its short, but its not that short!
Whats going through your mind when your going down a course?
TM: Not muchits better if you dont think.
Its important that you get out your instinct and just go, go, go.
If youre thinking, youre three seconds behind.
Not to think is the trick of skiingand maybe of life, I think!
Just go with it.
SELF: You skied right after Lindsey Vonn, who was in first place until you unseated her.
How did it feel to win on her home mountain?
TM: When Lindsey came down, I heard all the people screaming and cheering for her.
It was the first time Id heard it [during the race].
But when I came down, it was silent.
I thought, Oh, no.
Coming here, knowing Lindsey is in great shape, and to beat her was huge for me.
SELF:What do you do when youre not on the course?
TM: I really like music [She has a side singing career!].
I dont have much free time because Im training a lot, but simple things make me happy.
But I chose skiing and its a great sport too.
I just like being outside.
