Ilove sleeping, and I’ve always been terrible at it.
Well, terrible at falling asleep, anyway.
I have been writing about sleep for years, and I take a stab at practice what I preach.
(Some of it, at least.)
It helps that I got a dog who will pee on my floor if I sleep in.
As he said this, I realized I’d been sleeping on mine for 11.
But that was about it.
It was time to trade up.
And if ever there was a time to get a new mattress, it’s now.
But suddenly mattresses are having kind of a moment.
I guess we have Casper to thank for making mattresses trendy.
Not that the OG mattress warehouse is suffering;by one estimatethere are 9,200 mattress stores across the country.
Little did I know that most of the major brands have their own versions now.
Even Craftmatic is still going strong with iPhone apps and vibration wake-up alarms.
Bonus, the newer adjustables don’tlooklike adjustables.

I had a lot of options to choose from and went with one that felt right for my body.
I’ve also gotten totally spoiled with the ability to adjust, especially the head.
I nodded thoughtfully, “Pretty good.”
Then they hit the button that sets the bed back to flat and asked me again.
My body felt awkwardly stretched out and it made me sad.
I replied simply, “I don’t like it.”
They both laughed, like, yeah, that’s what we thought.
The adjustable-ness hasn’t ruined me for regular beds completelyI can still go to a hotel and be fine.
But when I’m at home I love futzing to get just the right amount of lift.
I love my bed.
All that being said, I didn’t become a solid sleeper overnight because of my fancy new bed.
My bed is the shit, but it’s not magic.
The key is to realize the importance of a mattress to sleep quality and take it seriously.
We don’t sleep enough.
You should do whatever it takes to make surethe hours you getare good ones.
