Here, our interview with Monika, a woman who deserves nothing but our respect.
The item should never have run, and we have since decided to discontinue the page.
You will not see it after the May issue of SELF.
Then we talked about ways to shed light on her important work and amazing attitude.
Her story is inspiring.
Lucy Danziger: When did you know something was up with your health?
Monika Allen: In 2012, I was getting these really intense headaches.
Think short, sharp pains and dull aches.
I bounced between doctors, chiropractors and masseuses.
How did you react?
LD: And what about your running – were you able to run during your treatment?
MA: It was intense: five days of radiation a week for six weeks.
I ran slowly, but I kept going.
But I felt better just getting out there.
LD: That’s amazing.
So how many races have you run?
And 20 was the Long Beach marathon.
And my times kept getting faster, too, and back to normal.
LD: That’s great.
Now tell us about the tutus.
How did you get started?
We sell ourGlam Runnertutus for $20 to $25 each; less if you buy in bulk.
LD: So people clearly were into your designs!
How many did you sell?
Our most popular colors, though, are purple and pink – bubblegum pink is our top seller.
LD: So what’s next for you?
We are all moving forward, together.
Monika is a complete inspiration.
