You blogged about how the holidays derailed your training.
I had to put my failures behind me and stop beating myself up.
In the future, I will plan ahead for a few more splurges than usual.
That’s part of what makes the holidays great, right?
Were you always so athletic?
I was born into a sports-obsessed family.
I have two brothers and very athletic parents.
I ran track in high school but my love was competitive equestrian horseback riding and show jumping.
What is your advice for women who are just starting to work fitness into their lives?
It’s never too late!
How has blogging about your training affected your experience?
It has certainly motivated me.

How are you feeling about the race – you’re a month away!
What do you think is the biggest roadblock for most women when it comes to fitness?
Unfortunately, many women I know, including yours truly, are perfectionists.
Other than marathon training, what do you usually do to work out?
I really enjoy the workout DVDs by Jillian Michaels.
Horseback riding still keeps me in shape as well.
Most people have no idea what a great workout riding can be.
What gets you motivated to work out?
Ten years from now I want to be in just as good shape as I am now.
Is there a workout class on your to-do list?
I really want to get into Pilates.
That’s definitely on my to-do list for 2012.
What song gets you most fired up at the gym?
My music choices are determined by my mood.
What’s in your fridge?
Lots of fresh vegetables, yogurt, cheese and my sugar-free vanilla coffee creamer.
What’s your go-to breakfast?
One cup of steel-cut oatmeal.
I also enjoy Chobani yogurt and always mix in sliced or chopped almonds.
What do you typically have for lunch and dinner?
Lunch is pretty inconsistent.
I eat a variety of meals thanks to the phenomenal cafeteria we have at ESPN.
If you have to eat fast food, what do you get?
French fries at McDonald’s.
Do you have a favorite healthy snack?
What’s your healthiest eating habit and unhealthiest eating habit?
We have vegetables – and dessert – every single night.
Fortunately for my kids they have a mother who has a raging sweet tooth!
What’s your favorite indulgence?
Dessert, every single night of my life.
Chocolate is usually the culprit.
What’s your idea of a perfect night out?
I actually prefer a night in instead of out.
What is your most urgent goal right now?
Focus on getting more sleep!
However, that doesn’t mix well with my 5 a.m. wake up-call!
So I’m trying to be disciplined about getting at least seven hours of sleep a night.
What’s your mantra/favorite quote?
It’s part of the cadet prayer at West Point, which we memorized as kids.
What’s your biggest accomplishment?
However, nothing outweighs being a mother.
