It’s been a very exciting time in my life!
All of this in addition to planning some cool expeditions to Madagascar.
You’ve been a cheerleader, research scientist and TV personality – which is your favorite?
I have truly loved them all!
Your trips are physically challenging.
What’s your workout routine?
Cardio and some light weight training for building muscle.
What motivates you to work out?
Plus, when you’re running from elephants, it’s important to be fast on your feet!
What songs gets you fired up at the gym?
“I Like It” by Enrique Iglesias gets my pulse going.
I also love The Black Eyed Peas.
What’s the best workout class you’ve ever taken?
Boot camp is my favorite way to train!
I love the old-school jumping jacks, lunges, sit-ups and most of all it’s different every time!
What do you eat for breakfast?
I’m an early riser and I work late into the night, so coffee is a staple.
I alternate between poached eggs and my favorite granola cereal.
What do you have for lunch and dinner?
I love grilled chicken and salad.
But as busy, globe-trotting mom, sometimes I eat my kids' leftovers consisting of macaroni and cheese!
What’s your favorite healthy snack?
Apples and peanut butter
What’s your biggest indulgence?
French fries
You’ve done some exciting and sort of terrifying things out in the wild.
What’s been the SCARIEST?
What advice do you have for young women pursuing a career in science?
If you have a passion for science or exploration, don’t let anything stand in your way.
I talk about this in my book because as a female scientist, it isn’t always easy.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received?
“Don’t worry about the shark you see, worry about the sharks you don’t see.”
It’s useful advice in many contexts!
