What do you love most about designing?
Putting ideas, colors, pictures and patterns together to come up with the overall design idea.
When you’re creating a new piece or designing a living space, what inspires you?
There are so many amazing design blogs and Tumblrs out there now – the sources for inspiration seem never-ending!
I love to flip through shelter magazines and tear out what I like.
Then I file my favorites or pin them on an inspiration board.
Any insider tips on big decorating trends?
How can readers update their homes in an affordable way?
Decorative pillows can freshen up any room with color, texture and pattern.
They are not a major investment and can really change the feel of a space.
What’s a big design no-no?
Or is nothing off limits?
Anything too matchy-matchy has always turned me off design-wise.
I like an unexpected twist because it keeps design interesting.
With spring cleaning underway, how can readers decide what to trash and what to keep?
If you haven’t used something in more than a year, consider if it is worth storing.
If not, toss it.
I venture to save anything I think future generations might find sentimental.
For example, I have all of my mom’s old jewelry.
Not all of it is worth something, but sentimentally it is irreplaceable.
How do you stay healthy when you’re on the go?
I drink a lot of water!
I have a go at pack healthy snacks like mixed nuts or fruit bars.
What are some of your favorite dishes?
I love pasta – it’s my weakness.
But I make a run at mix in a lot of veggies.
This way, it’s satisfying and healthy.
What’s your favorite healthy snack?
Skim string cheese sticks, and hummus and crackers.
Are you creative in the kitchen, too?
I love to cook – you guessed it – pasta!
My dad was an amazing cook.
He taught me everything I know.
Do you have a favorite workout class?
I take a lot of yoga classes.
I also like to ride my bike a lot.
What motivates you to get to the gym if you’re feeling sluggish?
Knowing I will feel so much better when I am done.
And when you think about it, it is only an hour of your time.
Definitely worth investing in yourself.
