What was the best part about recording your new album?

The ideas come from everywhere, but mostly from my own kids and what captivates them.

They tell me flat-out what works and what doesn’t.

You’re a certified yoga instructor as well.

What do you love most about yoga?

Do you have a favorite yoga pose?

Side plank, which we call “Rainbow Pose” in kids' yoga.

It takes serious focus and concentration.

If you think for one second about what’s for dinner, you’ll fall right out of it.

And it’s a great whole-body strengthener.

My little guy comes along, too.

I bundle him up in the jogger to the point where he’s just eyes and a nose.

What song gets you most fired up at the gym?

At the moment, it’s “Parachute” by Ingrid Michaelson.

Is there a workout class on your to-do list?

I would love to take dance classes … belly dancing, ballroom dancing.

I think almost any kind would be a blast and a great workout.

What’s the best workout class you’ve ever taken?

My butt has never looked as good since.

Not letting “I don’t have time” get in the way.

Having a partner in crime is key.

What’s in your fridge?

What’s your go-to breakfast?

Breakfast is my favorite meal.

I like it all: the egg-y stuff, the sweet stuff, you name it.

Weekdays I usually have two breakfasts.

What do you typically have for lunch and dinner?

Family dinner rotates depending on the night of the week.

It’s anything from whole wheat spaghetti to fish, to pizza, to soup and bread.

If you have to eat fast food, what do you get?

We recently were in an airport with three hungry kids and very slim pickings, restaurant-wise.

A Wendy’s was the only thing to be found.

I have to admit I like their chili.

It’s even better with the ridiculous amount of cheese and sour cream they give you.

Of course we got a Frosty, too.

Do you have a favorite healthy snack?

Everyone in the family has one every day.What’s your favorite indulgence?

To be specific, a dark chocolate caramel with sea salt.

Do you have a favorite gadget?

Probably my iPhone because it makes it so easy to keep in touch with everyone important to me.

And it has little bonuses, too.

Dinner at a great restaurant with our foodie friends.

Then out to see some ass-kicking band like Hoots and Hellmouth.

What are you reading?

I just finishedA Visit From the Goon Squad, by Jennifer Egan.

Each chapter is from the perspective of a different character, and one entire chapter is just Powerpoint slides.

It’s pretty hard to make something like that work, but it did.

I thought it was very brave of the writer to attempt it.

What is your most urgent goal right now?

I want to learn the banjo.

What clothing item will you NEVER get rid of?

A long wool sweater coat that was my mother’s and her collection of beautiful silk scarves.

What’s the best happiness advice you’ve ever gotten?

From my incredibly sensible 91-year-old grandmother: “It doesn’t have to be so hard.”

What’s your biggest source of inspiration?

Seeing great musicians play live.

I’m always totally inspired and thinking of new song ideas in the car on the way home.

What’s your favorite quote?

“Your playing small does not serve the world.

There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.

We are all meant to shine, as children do.
