I tell my staff that all the time, and ensure they’re eating.

Did that make you more competitive?It definitely made me more competitive.

Traveling to Ireland, where my family has its roots, really added to the experience.

Good thing she has swimming, running, hiking, and yoga to fall back on.

When I’ve got time, I’ll add in yoga or hiking for a two-a-day.

Some days I nearly fall off the bike because I’m so distracted by the amazing scenery!

And nothing can match a trail run through our incredible desert landscapes.

My fitness philosophy 10 years ago was:Ok, I’ll do it.

What’s your fitness personality?I’m a total creature of habit.

I take a stab at do at least one race per month to keep me motivated and on track.

And every year, I want to try something outrageous that I’m sure I can’t do.

So in 2013, I racedIronman Arizonain November and climbed Mt.

This December, I’m running my first ultramarathon.

It’s gonna be a blast!

I love marathons because they reward preparation, dedication, patience, and endurance.

This is crazy."

To win, you have to be patient and just keep working until you reach that finish line.

But boy, that finish line is worth it!

But then I signed up for the Arizona Ironman, and the jig was up.

I had to learn to swim!

In everyday life, my workout routine consists of:Cardio, strength, core, and flexibility training.

I run ~2 miles daily and then alternate weight training and BOSU work three times a week.

Stretching after every workout is a must!

The key to keeping up on the campaign trail?Staying hydrated!

I always have a bottle of SMART water or G2 Gatorade nearby.

What does your sports resume look like?I trained for many years in classical ballet.

After injuring my back, I took-up step aerobics and kickboxing.

In college and law school, I got my certifications and taught both.

My fitness personality is…I love having a regular routine!

My professional personality is…Goal-oriented.

My off-duty personality is…Family comes first.

When we all get time to catch up, seeing my sisters, nieces and nephews means so much.

When Im working out, Im thinking about __________________.The bigger picture.

My go-to gear:It starts with a good pair of running shoes.

The brighter the colors the better!

They are supportive yet light enough for all of the travel I do.

What’s your workout routine?I walk and lift light weights almost every day.

Whether I am in Maine or in Washington, my schedule can be very hectic.

So I wear low-heeled pumps that can take me through the day.

Cold weather does not stop us.

We just know how to dress for it: we bundle up and go!

My favorite winter sport is cross-country skiing.

The legislature in Rhode Island is part-time and campaiging is also part-time.

Working out brings those same benefits to me today.

When I got to race day, I was ready to achieve my goal and did it.

The most difficult physical challenge I’ve ever faced:ClimbingMt.

Being fit was a plus, but the trek was not technically difficult.

It took 6 days and the summit day starts at midnight from about 15,000 feet.

I crawled forward almost heel to toe, all the while lightheaded, cold, and nauseous.

I wouldn’t do it twice!

I once tried _________________, but never again!Rollerblading.

Decided to stick with running after that and have a nice scar for an icebreaker story.

I tried it once but I don’t have the patience or finesse.

When I’m working out, I’m thinking about:I clear my head.

I get new ideas.

It depends on the day and what’s going on.

What’s non-negotiable for staying in top mental and physical shape during a campaign?Flexibility.

And I start every morning with a protein shake!

One year ago today,Wendy Daviswas in the midst of a 13-hour stance on the Senate floor.

Time permitting, I also enjoy doing yoga (Baptiste method) and barre classes.

How long have you been doing this routine?I started working out with free weights during law school.

I maintained that and added running a few years after I graduated, as well as road biking.

I started practicing yoga about three years ago and added barre classes to my mix about a year ago.

What’s your fitness personality?I tend to like a routine.

But efficiency has certainly played into my workout choices, especially in the past couple of very busy years.

I process the prior day and plan the current one.
