How do you think it’s shaped who you are as a person?

I think gymnastics does lot of things.

I think it’s made me more responsible.

It’s taught me a lot about myself, that I’m stronger than I could ever imagine.

How do you stay calm when gold is on the line?

Does it help to have your teammates there to support you?

Nothing beats having your friends, family or teammates supporting you.

You’re currently the most decorated US Gymnast in the history of the World Championships.

Do you view yourself as an icon?

What do you hope to teach aspiring gymnasts?

It’s definitely a huge honor.

Don’t ever regret the decisions you’ve made to get to where you are now.

I didn’t start gymnastics thinking I’d be able to go to the Olympics.

I started it because I thought it was fun and it’s brought me to great places.

What has it been like going through the ups and downs of life with your teammates?

What is your bond like?

My teammates are amazing!

When I tore my Achilles, they literally cried more than I did.

I was so proud of them.

They kept it together.

Training for the gymnastics can be grueling.

What is your trick to making each workout session fun?

“I’m a big believer of keeping the mood light in the gym.

I constantly have music blasting at all times.

My coach and I have a really good relationship.

Do you have a mantra or something you tell yourself to stay motivated?

That just gives me comfort knowing that I am always going to be watched over and protected.

And that I can approach anything in my life with confidence and not have any fears.

What healthy eating rule do you live by?

Do you have a favorite post-workout snack?

My healthy eating rule is I never deprive myself of anything.

If I feel like I want a piece of chocolate, I’m going to have it.

I’m a big cereal eater post workout because it’s light–I love gluten-free Chex.

Then I’ll have a heavier meal, protein based, after that.

What are you most looking forward to at this year’s Games?

I’m looking forward to just being part of Team USA and getting on the competition floor.

And just having the time of my life!

Anything else SELF readers should know about you?

I have a secret that I only sweat in my left armpit.

It’s one of the craziest things.

Secret Outlast is actually the only deodorant that can keep me dry and smelling good for up to 48-hours.
