The words Fitbit and activity-tracking go together like peanut butter and jelly.

Plenty of other companies make wearables, butFitbithas made a name for itself in the activity- and sleep-tracking world.

Should I get one instead of an Apple Watch?

I have both an Apple Watch and a Fitbit Ionic, and I actually rotate between the two.

Fitbit does trackers pretty darn well, and the Ionic is no exception.

Important note: I had an early flight. I don’t normally wake up before 5 A.M.

One issue Ive always had with activity trackers is that theyre generally clunky and/or look kinda cheesy.

It’s waterproof up to 50 meters.

That makes is a great choice for swim workoutsthe swim feature tracks laps and calories burned in the pool.

A subscription gives you access to on-demand workouts and personalized workouts that adapt to your needs.

In 2018, audio coaching from expert trainers will also be available.

(Coaching services are $7.99 per month or $39.99 per year, as of publication.)

Fitbit created its own operating system and App Gallery.

As of launch, it includes basic things like Activity, Timer, Music, and Alarms.

You dont need your phone nearby to make it happen.

But you cant respond to any of themyou have to take out your phone to do that.

That’s not ideal, but it makes sense since Fitbit has yet to dabble in the phone category.

Fitbit boasts an improved heart rate sensor over its past devices.

(A normal resting heart rate is anywhere between 60 and 100, and varies from person to person.

If your notice yours changes drastically, its worth mentioning to your doctor.)

Theres no denying that Fitbit has a really comprehensive sleep-tracking functionality.

The Ionic is also loaded with a sensor that detects relative blood oxygen levels (SpO2).

People with the condition often have low blood oxygen levels, because their breathing is inhibited throughout the night.

I really love the watch for races, hikes, and even just by day-to-day activities.
