Youve been, Im assuming, to parties before.

After a few hours, the place is a mess.
If youre a guy, you probably dont spend too much time thinking about that.
If youve ever really paid attention to this, its a jarring split.
Of course, this isnt the case in every culture, and certainly its rarely explicitly gendered.
Theres no great mystery therewomen are socialized to attend to the domestic space, and men are not.
The only problem is, the party isnt where it endsits where it begins.
My question is: when was the last time you did someone elses?
Women are happier about sharing dishwashing duties than they are about sharing any other household task.
And it does make sense.
Yet too often, guys dont bring that mentality to their relationships.
Because they were told early on that it didnt matter.
So its not a surprise that theyre not bringing the A-game to household chores.
What would a world where Adam Smiths mother and Stephen Hawkings female assistants got more credit look like?
How many of your favorite movie directors spent their youths sweating away at home cleaning things?
What would your favorite musicians have sounded like if theyd been asked to do chores instead of practicing?
In a just world, the cleaning duties are not split down gender lines even a little bit.
We dont live in that kind of world, not yet.
And depending on how used to doing dishes you are, you might do a bad job.
You might not be as familiar with how to wash things as the women in the dining room.
These are little things, but like freshly washed plates stacked in a drying rack, they add up.
