No surprise, then, that a version of this lit-from-within effect has been a fixture on fashion runways.
The newsporty glowis about skin that’s sheer, luminous andvery real.
Call it the supernaturalcomplexion.
Of course, we all want to conceal the occasional blotchiness or bad-skin day.
“You still want to even out your complexion,” says Los Angeles makeup artist Fiona Stiles.
“And there are options for that.”
“Because in the end,” Stiles says, “you want to look likeyou.”
No matter how high-tech the makeup, always hydrate your skin first.
The latest way to do it: with an essence.
Most are loaded with skin-quenching ingredients, like hyaluronic acid, to instantly moisturize your complexion.
“Essences are water-based, so they penetrate beautifully,” explains New York City facialist Jordana Mattioli.
“And many contain high levels of antioxidants and other actives that benefit your skin.”
The best technique for applying any essence?
“Pat and press in the formula with your fingers,” says Mattioli.
This way, it sinks in quickly and helps makeup glide on.
“Five years ago that would have been impossible.”
For this, layer on highlighter (over or under foundation is up to you).
“You need a little rosiness.”
It doesn’t get more natural than that.
“It’s like, ‘Oh, I just look gorgeous,'” says Westman.
“The effect is effortless.”
