Yes, You "Cannes" Wear Flats to a Black Tie Affair

Much has been made of an outdated Cannes Film Festival policy that allegedly prohibits attendees from wearing flats to the week's events. As a woman who has been 5'11" since middle school, I've asked this question myself: Is it OK to wear flats with formalwear? Absolutely. Though I have always been more than comfortable wearing heels, when prom rolled around I chose fancy flats—by the end of the night, my friends were jealous. Whether you have the height advantage, aren't able to wear stilettos or want to wear flats just 'cause (nothing wrong with that) it's your right to choose... or Choos, as the case may be. There are many metallic, embellished and sparkly sandals and flats that can easily dress up for a black tie event.
